Emergency

This is really uncalled for.

At approximately 12 am, a strong tremor was felt in PJ; whereby even residents living in the second floor of a condominium could feel it.

Perhaps some credible information would help-

It was a 'surprise', 'shock' or an 'abrupt awakening' for residents staying on lower levels because the previous tremor which was felt last December 26, turned out to be from an earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter Scale; of which triggered a deadly tsunami; yet, the 'lower-ground' residents didn't actually feel the tremor until being told by their 'higher-ground' neighbours.

And as such, a commotion quickly followed.

Efficient networking services through high-speed Internet tell us that the tremors were felt in various places in Malaysia, namely towns and cities in the Northen Region such as Taiping, Alor Setar and Kuala Lumpur. However, the tremor was also felt in Kuching.

The crowd has dispersed since, but the insecurities and the dreaded nostalgia lingered in the minds of many who felt the tremor the second time within 4 months.

Major news networks, both regional and international are already reporting the quake which hit Northen Sumatera, Indonesia. Do tune in to the Internet and television news networks for updates.

Residents along the coastline of Penang Island are advised to relocate themselves to higher grounds for fear of another occurence of a tsunami. Do take heart.

And for the rest of us, let us pray for the safety of the ones affected- both directly, and indirectly.

Yennie,

This is an email I sent out today:

But international news agencies report that between 1,000 and 2,000 people may have been killed on Nias Island" (from CNN)

Steven Sim observes that this event took place on the day after Easter, when the other event took place the day after Christmas. Is there significance in the dates? I don’t know, but our Muslim friends will speculate about this I am sure. Let's hope they don’t pick up the option that says "we are being judged because we compromised with the Christian God" but rather they would embrace a fear of the Christian God, that could lead to a getting to know Him.

Heb 12:25-29

25 See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised,"Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens." 27 This phrase, "Yet once more," indicates the removal of things that are shaken — that is, things that have been made — in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken , and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our God is a consuming fire.
ESV

God is really shaking our neighbours up, in our backyard! That tells me either He is forcing open a stubborn nation to Christian relieve and help (that will bring about evangelism) or that He is giving us Malaysians a wake up call, that He can shake us up anytime He wills. Perhaps its both of these possibilities.

Even so, come Lord Jesus.

Thanks, Leon for the updates. The information I received from the Internet were preliminary when this entry was written. There is also a report by the Star Online on whether the quake last night was a catalycsm or an aftermath jolt that was predicted to follow after the deadly Dec 26 quake. Indeed, I find it not a coincidence of the significance of the dates. The end times is near, perhaps? Then, it is God's warning to us that time is INDEED running short; of which, has triggered some of us to probe into our senses on this issue. A friend exclaimed today that 10 years ago, it would be virtually unlikely for Malaysians to have earthquake tremors as their mamak conversational topics. Now, we even call up and ask, "Eh, you feel the tremors?" to our friends staying locally. My concern would be whether Malaysians would grow to be indifferent to the tremors. Thanks for getting the ball rolling, at least in words wise.

"So Christians, what are we to do now?"
